On the third Journey album, I started using double bass drums. He didn't have any idea of which side of the beat he was on half of the time. What I thought I had to be? Did you get burned out? And yknow I didnt feel like major surgery was a band decision. Theyre all magical to me. Singers live on the edge of being powerful, being strong, and not degrading their voice, and its the most difficult edge to walk. Okay. Anybody who plays in a group must realize that everybody in the group must always be aware of everybody else. Cause we didnt sound alike. AD: Ludwig. I called Jonathan. Like I said, using it can cause the problem. I sing with myself all the time I'm playing. RM: Of all the albums you've played on, which ones stand out in your mind? I dont want to be in the band anymore. When a drummer gets calluses on his hands, they no longer chafe and they no longer blister, and thats fantastic. It worries the hell out of everybody else because I'm changing things all over the place and it almost sounds like a drum solo. Is it just that people can relate to the sentiment in that song? Well, it felt great to be free. There was a statement I made on a VH1 special, which Im sure youve heardthat I never really felt part of the band.
